What is the Corporation?
The University Corporation at Monterey Bay (the "Corporation") is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation established in July 1994 and is a recognized auxiliary in good standing of the California State University.
Corporation operations and services are integral to campus life and provide an important source of net revenue to the University's budget. From FY96/97 to FY07/08, the Corporation provided over $22.2 million to support the campus budget.
Additionally, direct Corporation support is provided for a number of University programs and activities, including financing the renovation of residence halls, a new wet lab and classroom facility, new residence halls, and the renovation of the Black Box Cabaret; recreational field maintenance; campus event services; and community outreach activities.
Vision
The Corporation is an integral element of overall campus operations. We strive to find innovative ways to exercise our fiscal flexibility, operational expertise, and enterprising character. We advance the University's educational mission by providing resources that enable the University to serve the working class and historically undereducated and low-income populations, to feature an enriched living and learning environment, and to recruit and retain talented faculty and staff. The Corporation is self-sustaining and a reliable source of net income for the University.
Mission
The mission of the Corporation is to use its:
- Fiscal flexibility to provide resources and services not supported by the State General Fund;
- Operational expertise to implement and manage commercial enterprises and activities; and
- Entrepreneurial acumen to generate revenue in support of the University's strategic initiatives.
The Corporation is committed to supporting the University in building a multicultural learning community whose partners are prepared to contribute productively, responsibly, and ethically to California and the global community.
